Running out of the Randwick Barracks in Sydney, Anklebiters Playgroup is a great place for Defence families in the Sydney area with young children to meet, relax and network.

Autism Queensland Association

Autism QLD Ltd run a program with Defence children, adults and families impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder providing specialised education, therapy and support services.

Australian Military Wives Choir

The choir was established in Canberra in 2012 and members are keen to help women start their own choirs in other locations. In Canberra, the choir meets on the first and third Thursday of each month.

Bandiana Neighbourhood House

Bandiana Neighbourhood House support services to Defence families including occasional childcare, playgroup, craft groups, and lifestyle courses.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters Australia offer long term child mentoring for Defence families through the Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre (Encircle Ltd) in Lawnton South Queensland.

Billeroy Road Community Centre

The Billeroy Road Community Centre is a tri-service facility offering a range of programs for Defence families in the Darwin region, including a playgroup, youth group, and a suite of self development courses.

Blamey Community Group

Servicing Defence families in the Kapooka region, the Blamey Forest Hill Defence Community Group is located at RAAF Base Wagga Wagga and is a space where Defence spouses and families can connect, socialise and have fun. Activities on offer include morning teas, playtime for children aged 0-6 years, group activities and social events. craft groups, and a Kids’ Hub.

Butterworth Support Group

Butterworth Support Group are located in Penang Malaysia and offer social support networks to Defence families who are posted to this locality.


Granted funds for the Northern Connect program in North Queensland. The program will cater for families new to the region or new to the military lifestyle.

Cerberus Cottage Family & Friends Association

The Cottage offers a playgroup, craft groups, and personal growth and development classes to military families in the HMAS Cerberus region.

The Dowsing Point Community Centre provides local Defence families with a playgroup, craft sessions, a support group, volunteering opportunities, and community engagement.

Duntroon Community Centre’s support services to Defence families in the Canberra region include playgroups and playschool programs, crafting clubs, babysitting and walking groups, a library, and self-development courses.

East Sale Family Group provides a craft group, playgroup, book club, and youth group, and publishes a bimonthly newsletter.

Gallipoli Barracks Community Centre

Gallipoli Barracks Community Centre holds events and activities including Playgroup, Mums and Bubs and Craft for Defence families located at Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane.

The organisation will run a program for young people aged 11-19 in the Darwin area. The program enables social inclusion, develops resilience and aims to improve the emotional health and wellbeing of young people.

Gungahlin Defence Families Playgroup

The group runs a different craft activity for the kids every week, lots of indoor and outdoor toys, a cubby house, a video, DVD and book library to borrow from, and a morning tea for the mums and dads.

Hinchinbrook Chamber of Commerce Industry and Tourism Inc

The Defence Families Community Employment project will partner with Experience Works North Queensland to offer Defence families’ strength based programs that optimise employment prospects and business development solutions in the region.

Holsworthy Family Group

Providing Defence families living in the Liverpool region west of Sydney with access to a playgroup, craft sessions and a toy library, the Holsworthy Family Group is a point of contact, a resource centre, and social place to meet and make new friends from the Defence and wider civilian communities.

The Junction Works

The Junction Works specialises in providing a range of accessible, culturally appropriate support services and programs across three social service areas: community, youth and disability. The Military Teens Connect program operates out of the Wattle Grove Community Centre.

Karrakatta Community House (KCH)

Located at Dundas in Sydney, Kissingpoint Cottage runs adult educational programs, a playgroup, craft sessions and can provide a range community information to Defence families in the region.

Supporting Defence families in the Darwin region, Larrakeyah Neighbourhood House offers activities including craft groups, book club, playgroup, personal growth and development classes, and a library.

Little Diggers Community Centre

The community centre provides a range of weekly activities for both Defence and non-Defence families in Cairns. Programs include playgroup, bellies and bubs and a range of workshops including first aid, cooking and self-defence sessions.

Mactier Community Centre provides playgroups, craft, sporting activities, a website, and publishes a local newsletter.

Marilla House Community Centre

The centre offers families and individuals fun activities throughout the week. Marilla House can provide newly posted families with links to the community and support. Activities include regular playgroups, a mums and bubs session and an art group. There's also a MyTime group for parents and carers of children with a disability or chronic illness.

Mission Australia's Defence Youth Support Program is for young people aged 10-18 in Katherine affected by sudden change in family life due to deployment or posting cycles.

My Space Inc.

My Space supports young people and their families who are affected by a disability or mental health disorder. My Space will run a pilot project for Defence families in Cairns who have dependants with additional needs.

Network Tindal provides support to the Defence community living near RAAF Base Tindal in the Northern Territory, including welcome functions, a playgroup and a local newsletter.

North West Disability Services Inc

The North West Disability Services Inc is an organisation dedicated to providing services to people with disabilities, including rehabilitation, respite and activities.

Pearce Community Toy Library and Social Group Inc

The library has toys and educational items for children from 0-18 years. The library is also a great way to meet others in the local area. There’s also a social group that holds regular activities.

Pilbara Regiment Family Group Inc

The Pilbara Regiment Family Group provides social networks, events and education for Defence families posted to the Pilbara Region. The group supports Defence families at all six Depots of the Regiment from Port Hedland to Carnarvon in Western Australia and from the coast to the border with the Northern Territory.

Playgroup Association of the Northern Territory Defence families in the Northern Territory can access playgroups (including for those with special needs) and support and referrals to other service providers from the Playgroup Association of the Northern Territory.
Playgroup Queensland

Playgroup QLD deliver the Respecting Fathers at Play Program to enhance Defence fathers’ capacity to parent and engage appropriately with their child through a structured play scheme environment.

Port Moresby Australian Defence Families Club

The club organises regular social events, courses and excursions for Defence families posted to PNG. The club aims to reduce the stress and isolation associated with a hardship posting in a remote locality.

Power Community Ltd

Power Community Ltd delivers a resilience program to children from Defence families, which uses sport to engage participants in a workshop exploring issues commonly experienced by all children growing up.

Puckapunyal and District Neighbourhood Centre Inc

The centre connects Defence families with one another and the wider community through numerous programs and activities. This includes a range of children’s programs such as dance, Tumble Tots and Story Time. The centre has a fitness program including Zumba, tennis and bootcamp. There’s also a coffee club, craft group, mums and bubs, school holiday activities and several social events throughout the year.

Puckapunyal Kindergarten Association Incorporated

The association provides kindergarten programs for Defence families based at Puckapunyal. Families from the wider community also access the program. The kindergarten runs a program for four-year-olds (15 hrs per week) and a program for three-year-olds (one or two three-hour sessions per week).

Puckapunyal Tallarook Junior Netball/Football Club

The Puckapunyal Tallarook Junior Netball/Football Club is a junior sporting club focussed on youth development for children aged between 8 and 17. It is located at the Puckapunyal Military Area. 

Riverina Community College

The Riverina Community College Transition Support Officer (TSO) develops and coordinates information and networking events for Defence families located at Kapooka.

Robertson Barracks Family Group services to Defence families in the Darwin region, providing a playgroup, community events and family fun days.

Shoalhaven Defence Families Association

The Shoalhaven Defence Families Association provides Defence families living in the Shoalhaven NSW region with access to a playgroup, craft group, and a crèche. The association also produces Time Out, newsletter distributed to Defence families in the area.

Toowoomba Defence Family Support Association’s support services to Defence families include playgroups, craft activities, workshops for children and adults, and a media library.

The Top Ender Tri Services Magazine

The Top Ender is produced every two months and is distributed to all Defence families in the Northern Territory. The magazine provides information about local community events and services.

Williamtown Craft Group Incorporated

Supporting Defence and civilian families living near RAAF Base Williamtown, the Williamtown Craft Group is a group of people who share a common interest in crafting, friendship and support.

Williamtown Playgroup

Williamtown Playgroup provides Playgroups three days each week for Defence families with young children in the Williamtown NSW region.

Williamtown Pre School Inc

Williamtown Preschool caters for children aged 3-5 years and is open to both Defence and civilian families.
