Gitte Binskin, wife of Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin , is the Patron of the Defence Community Organisation.
Currently the practice manager at a dental surgery in Queanbeyan, NSW, Gitte has worked in a variety of areas including retail and at a chiropractic practice. Gitte has completed a diploma in Bio Sciences and worked as a technical officer for both TAFE in Australia and at a research institute for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases in Sun City, Arizona.
Gitte was born in Fakse, Denmark in 1962. Gitte is a common Danish name, short for 'Brigitte' and pronounced 'Ghee-teh'. Raised in Præstø Denmark, Gitte travelled to Australia in 1981 and met the then Royal Australian Navy A-4 G Skyhawk pilot, Sub Lieutenant Mark Binskin, in Newcastle when he was posted to RAAF Williamtown. They were married two years later on 6 August 1983.
Throughout their marriage, Gitte and Mark have moved around Australia and overseas. Gitte has enjoyed living in Newcastle, Katherine in the Northern Territory, and Arizona in the USA. Gitte and Mark currently reside in the historic Bridges House at the Royal Military College Duntroon in Canberra.
Gitte is very interested in Defence matters, particularly issues relating to Service people, their families, and support for young veterans.
Gitte and Mark have two grown up sons, Scott and Nicholas, and two King Charles Spaniels, Zorro and Vichenzo. When time permits, Gitte enjoys walking Zorro and Vichenzo, cross-stitch, Pilates, and riding her motorbike with her family.
