Welcome to Capability Development Group (CDG)


The role of the Capability Development Group (CDG) is to develop and gain Government approval for future defence capabilities. The CDG has a close relationship with the Defence Materiel Organisation and oversees the implementation of a number of the Defence Procurement Review recommendations.
CDG is responsible, as Sponsor, for developing capability proposals, consistent with strategic priorities, funding guidance, legislation and policy, for consideration and approval by Government.

CDG is headed by the Chief of Capability Development Group (CCDG). CCDG, along with the Vice Chief of the Defence Force (VCDF), the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) and Chief Defence Scientist, comprise the ''Owner Support Executives'' who report to the Chief of the Defence Force (CDF) and the Secretary, Department of Defence.

Vision: To be recognised as a leading Defence Capability Development organisation whose expert advice is respected and accepted by Defence, Government, Industry and the central agencies.

Mission: To shape Defence’s future joint war fighting capability.
