Aim

To assess the suitability for employment of all Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen in either Naval Police Coxswain (NPC) branch, RAAF Security Police (SECPOL) mustering or in the Royal Australian Corps of Military Police (RACMP) and train them as Service Police - EDP 100121 (RAN), ECN 315 (ARA) or SECPOL (RAAF).

General

This is a Tri-service course of 75 working days (RAN) - 88 working days (Army, incorporating the C2 and C5 drivers courses) - 50 working days (RAAF). It assesses the suitability of service personnel being employed as Service Police members. The objective is to provide selected members with the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes for employment as Service Police members.

Prerequisites

Following are the minimum prerequisites to attend the Service Police Basic Course depending on service. (Links and more information located on Information page).

RAN -
Rank: AB - LS
Medical: Meet RAN standards of medical and physical fitness
Experience: Be a Leading Seaman with previous Sea Posting (Mandatory). Or an Able seaman who has had a previous Sea Posting, with a minimum of two years seniority in rank and have the promotional prerequisites for Leading Seaman (i.e. selected for Leading Seaman Leadership Course); hold a current (vehicle) driving licence; and hold a Helmsman Certificate (Proficiency No: 103185).

ARA -
Rank: PTE (P) - CPL
Medical: Medical Class 2
Experience: A minimum period of 12 months Service in the Australian Defence Force. Successful selection to transfer to Service Police.
C1 licence (Minimum), C2 preferred.

RAAF -
Rank: AC/W minimum
Medical: Meet Air Force standards of medical and physical fitness
Experience: Minimum of having completed Initial Recruit Training. In addition to the general entry requirements, candidates for the SECPOL Mustering must hold a current unrestricted Australian Class 1 (or equivalent) Motor Vehicle licence issued for vehicles with manual transmission. The holder of the licence must be free of traffic infringements that may cause future cancellation of the licence.

Access to necessary doctrine is available through the doctrine website. There is no requirement for these documents to be printed; however, it is strongly recommended that trainees read and be familiar with the following:

Return of service obligation

RAN - three years. ARA - one year and 75 days. RAAF - have no ROSO, however, must remain in SECPOL muster for a minimum of 24 months before applying for a remuster.
ARA only - It is the responsibility of the losing members unit/ship to ensure that a Return of Service Obligation Form of Acknowledgement is completed IAW DI(G) PERS 33-2 Return of Service Obligation. (ROSO is calculated by the formula of one day of ROSO for each day of training plus 365 days). Acquittal of ROSO begins on the first day of posting after the event attracting the ROSO.

Administration requirements

Trainees are to complete all administrative requirements prior to marching in to their respective courses.

Trainees are to download the Joining Instruction and Defence Police Training Centre - Trainee Handbook and complete all pre-course administration as directed as an absolute minimum prior to their attendance.
