Unit History

The 7th Command Support Unit (7CSU) was formed on 1st July 1997 to provide direct communication and administration support to 7th Brigade. The unit was formed through the amalgamation of Headquarters 6th Brigade, Headquarters 7th Brigade, 139th Signal Squadron and 140th Signal Squadron, 14th Military Police Platoon and 16th Military Police Platoon under the A21 rationalisation. However, since then, the Military Police component have been reformed under another banner, and 7CSU was renamed on the 1st January 2002 to 7th Command Support Regiment (7CSR).

7 CSR now consists of the Regimental Headquarters, 139th Signal Squadron and the Combat Service Support Squadron. 7 CSR is an integrated unit with a mixture of full time and part time members.

7 CSR transitioned to 139 Sig Sqn on 1 Jan 07.

140th Signals Squadron

In the late 60s the 4th Signal Regiment (4 Sig Regt) was a combined Australian Regular Army (ARA) and Citizens Military Forces (CMF) unit. The 140th Signal Squadron (140 Sig Sqn) was administered by 4 Sig Regt which was a CMF, field force type squadron which had previously been named Northern Command Battle Group Signal Troop.

140 Signal Squadron was raised on 20 May 1967 and became the Task Force Signal Squadron for 7 Task Force.

4 Sig Regt became a purely ARA unit with Kelvin Grove members being transferred to 140 Sig Sqn and Toowoomba members being transferred to 141 Sig Sqn. Both units were CMF units and Task Force Signal Squadrons. 140 Sig Sqn belonged to 7th Task Force and 141 Sig Sqn belonged to 11th Task Force in Townsville. 141 Sig Sqn disbanded on 30th June 1975 and the personnel became a troop of 140 Sig Sqn (805 Sig Tp).

140 Sig Sqn relocated from Enoggera to Kelvin Grove in Brisbane in 1982.

Traditions

140 Sig Sqn provided a banner party for World War 2 Corps of Signals veterans who march in Brisbane on Anzac Day each year.

140 Sig Sqn Other Ranks (OR) (called the "Merv Jensen Club") canteen became the meeting place for the Royal Australian Signals (RA Sigs) Association (Qld) and was the home of the association as proclaimed by the Officer Commanding (OC) 140 Sig Sqn Major A. M. McNaughton in 1975.

140 Sig Sqn provided (in the years 1975 to 1986) communications support to the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers that was previously provided by 141 Sig Sqn.
