DPTC OXFAM TRAILWALK
Eight brave souls strode off on a cold morning on 25 Aug this year to compete in the Oxfam Trailwalker. Starting at Hunters Hill and ending in FrenchsForest covering 100km course to be completed in 48 hours, in teams of four.
After training for several months and feeling very fit on the day, the teams faced a varied course broken into stages. Some parts of the course took the teams on roads through the suburbs, some parkways and some very “pleasant” climbs in the Ku-ring-gaiChaseNational Park.
Ably supported by their support crews each team completed each stage with a quick bite to eat, a drink and some new socks then off again.
Daylight faded and along came some very difficult walking in the National Park. Both teams had a difficult Stage 8, 17 km covering some very difficult terrain at night.
Then it was 92 km in and only 8 km to go. How hard can the final 8 km be!
With both teams feeling very tired, cranky and nursing some bruises, blisters, aches and pains. “Train hard die fit” beat the last years DPTC time by 6 hrs, finishing in 21 hrs 34 min finishing in 71st place and “Walk don't run” finished in 26 hrs 30 min finishing in 188th place out of the 470 teams that competed.
The teams would like to thank our support crews LT COL Heron, LCDR Youngman CAPT Broder, Natarsha Hall and Vicki Youngman. Without their help and encouragement the Oxfam Trailwalker 2006 for DPTC would not have been possible.
