DPTC UPGRADE
FROM THE DEPUTY COMMANDANT DEFENCE POLICE TRAINING CENTRE
2006 was again a busy year for DPTC, in addition to the day to day training of the future and current Service Police Defence Police Training Centre receive a 4.9m upgrade to its facilities. The upgrade commenced in Jan 06 and was completed in Sep 06. The upgrade included extensive refurbishments to existing buildings and the construction of a new instructors building, defensive tactics training area, living in accommodation and a long over due extension to the Mess.
Of note within the refurbishment, was the Investigator Training building. This tired and impractical building having a limited application was gutted and with the changing needs of Defence and utilising experts within the discipline of Forensics, a multi purpose and state of the art physical laboratory and classroom was designed and constructed.
The classroom of a max 12 students is now capable of accommodating comfortably 20 students with individual DRN or stand alone work stations. The classroom is also configured for the move to Digital Photography. The physical evidence lab which saw several small dark room and wet lab, redesigned into a spacious laboratory, where students can now have sufficient space to complete all the tasks and disciplines of the SOCO.
Although there has been a significant improvement to the facilities both increasing and improving the capacity for each of the venues, it was not able to do everything, DPTC still has a little more to do in the areas of the Provo Club and the Model Room, These two important venues can no longer accommodate all of DPTC staff at the same time. Work has begun for the next upgrade and we are hopeful that the hard work done previously will continue and we will see these two areas improved sooner rather than later.
DPTC also went through its Single Establishment Document (SED) review, with long hours and input from key stakeholders, DPTC was able to have initial agreement for an increase of 5 permanent staff, injected into training with favourable consideration for the increasing of ARES support. Subject to formal endorsement, DPTC will see these new positions from Jan 08. So if you are looking at a change of scenery then consider DPTC at Greenhills.
Looking to 2007, DPTC is still yet to know the full impact of the Defence Investigative Capability Review or the Military justice Review, however; DPTC is well placed with the new facilities and increase in staffing to meet the demands of Defence.
