11 MP Pl - Darwin
“Training for Success”
The 11 MP Pl focus for 2006 was firmly set on realistic training and it proved to be a very eventful year for the Wolf Pack. The start of the year began with the intent of going back to basics. Refreshing all the older faces and teaching some of the newer ones.
The Platoon embarked on Exercise Poziers Bond with the focus on basics firmly in mind and began a two week phase of defensive tactics, green MP skills, range shoots and IMT, with the priority being on the teaching rather than assessment. Good results were achieved by the platoon, which set us up well for moving into the next phase of platoon training. The next phase moved into the Section assessed phase under Exercise Alamien's Test. Exercise Alamien's Test put the Platoon through their paces utilising a number of facilities in the Darwin area including the Small Team Skills Training Facility (utilised for the practice of PPC techniques in the close urban environment), the Robertson Barracks amenities and CTA for varied, yet realistic training, including the rather toasty vehicle accident response scenario.
The frantic pace of 2006 continued throughout the year with a large amount of the Platoon deploying in support of OP ASTUTE, SECDET, AMTG, RCB and OP RELEX/RESOLUTE. Unfortunately for those left behind the pace didn't slow any but everyone soldiered on ensuring a successful end to the year.
During 2006, 11 MP Pl has continued to provide timely and effective training to 1 BDE, a critical requirement given the high operational tempo within the Brigade.
11 MP Pl has provided training to AMTG II and III, the OWB-G, RTF 1 and OP RESOLUTE as well as our ongoing commitment to PPC training requirements for the online DACC elements within the NT.
Overall, it has been an exceptionally busy year for 11 MP Pl with the training focus remaining firmly on realistic and effective training in order to remain best prepared for the challenges that 2007 will no doubt bring.
