Publications

The Land Warfare Studies Centre produces four different series of publications. These publications series supplement The Australian Army Journal by offering a venue for ideas first raised in the Army's professional discourse to be further developed and debated amongst defence personnel. Authors interested in submitting work for consideration by the LWSC are directed to read the Publication Guidelines (PDF) first.

Working Papers

Land Warfare issues which are of passing relevance or of only recent origin, and which consequently are not thoroughly developed, are researched and published as Working Papers . These papers are usually brief, and are intended as starting points for further debate within the Army.

Study Papers

Issues of more enduring relevance, and which thus incur a more substantial research effort, are researched and published as part of the Study Paper series. These papers are usually of an extended length, reflecting the more mature and nuanced professional debates upon which they often draw.

Classified Papers

As both the duration and tempo of operations increase, land warfare issues arising from ongoing operations must often be discussed before the operation concludes, if such a discussion is to be of any value to the Australian Army. Accordingly, the LWSC Classified Paper series allows soldiers and policy makers the opportunity to debate classified or sensitive material with their peers while still maintaining the appropriate level of secrecy that such material requires. These publications generally cover issues of relevance to ongoing operations, where timeliness of publication consequently becomes important.

General Sir Brudenell White Monograph Series

The General Brudenell White Monograph series is the flagship of the LWSC publications collection. Works published in this series reflect an exhaustive and thorough research effort on the part of their author, and are selected by the LWSC based upon the relevance of their thesis to the critical issues facing the Army today and into the future.
