Unit Sports

Doing it tough on the beaches of PNG
Members of the Squadron are encouraged to participate in sport as a way of keeping fit and active, and to build team and communication skills.

The unit competes once a year against our sister units 21st Const Sqn and 1st Topo in 6ESR's annual get together. Recently contested sports include:

  • Cricket,
  • Swimming,
  • Water Polo, and
  • Basketball.


Members of the unit make up the majority of the 'Sydney Engineers' team for the annual Rugby Match against the School of Military Engineering, held every ANZAC Day. In 2005, 'Sydney Engineers' emerged from the bloody battle victorious! While in barracks, the 4 of the Squadron's troops compete in the 'OC's Challenge', with a different team event held every Thursday afternoon. Sports include Touch Football, Water Polo, Basketball and Softball. 8 Troop is the current holder of the 'OC's Challenge Cup'.

The OC's Challenge


OC's Trophy 2005

The OC's Challenge is well on the way with Resources Troop looking the favourites to take the shield from last years winners 8 Tp.
The kick off for the challenge started with two ongoing games of Volleyball and Waterpolo. The second week was battled out in Basketball and most recently OZ Tag was battled out on the Melbourne Oval.
