AACAP 07 - 25 Aug

Toilet Block
At last the toilet block has been completed. Although it was a bit of a shaky start, the block was handed over to the council on 22 Aug. Field Engineers form the Construction Troop, PNG Defence Force and Tongan Defence Services had to deal with weather delays and delivery issues which pushed the construction time past the planned completion date by a week or so.

Despite these issues, the engineers have produced a quality product that will be appreciated by the community for many years to come.

Pouring the ablutions block slab
Weather and road closures have slowed the construction progress of the ablutions block. Concrete material deliveries have been delayed due to road closures and rain has prevented any concrete from being poured. However, all underground plumbing has been completed with the installation of a septic tank and connection to the town's infrastructure.

Once the concrete slab has been poured, members from the PNG Defence Force, Tongan Defence Services and the AACAP 07 Construction Troop can start construction on the block walls.

The site has been set out and measurements confirmed. Footings have been dug and formwork is being constructed. Underground plumbing has to be made up and dug in before any concrete is poured for the slab.

Doomadgee Toilet Block

The toilet block will be a concrete block building on a solid concrete slab: very simple and practical.

This part of the vertical construction has been allocated to the Resource Troop attachments of Construction Troop. These members will be assisted by members of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force for the initial phase of AACAP. Later in the exercise, these members will be replaced by a contingent of soldiers from the Tongan Defence Services.

The Toilet Block site is about 1 kilometre from where the houses are being constructed.
