Members from Plant Troop and a contingent of plumbers and labourers form Construction Troop continue to work tirelessly on the subdivision.

There has been great progress over the past month:

Kurb
Kurbing has started at the subdivision.

  • The stormwater is all but complete,
  • The sewer line has been installed and filled in,
  • The mains water is 90% complete,
  • The first lift of the road has been signed off and the kurb has started to go down, and
  • The pad of the subdivision has been built up and profiled.

It looks impressive, but there is still quite a way to go:

  • The kerbing will take 2-3 days to complete,
  • The second lift of the road can not go down until the kurbing is finished,
  • Topsoil that was removed in the first week of the project needs to be spread and compacted,
  • The mains water lines need to be finished and tested, and
  • The road still has to be sealed.

Unfortunately, this means that many members of Plant Troop will be staying behind after most of the AACAP contingent has redeployed home to complete the project.

Subdivision
Plumbers laying the stormwater pipes
Plant Troop have been working long hours on the subdivision trying to make up for delays caused by rains last month. They have been hauling, levelling and compacting material from 0700 to 2200 almost every day for the past week.

Bart's Road-Train

They have also been getting a bit of help from a local contractor. "Bart" and his Road-Train have single-handedly doubled the daily quantity of material being transported from the quarry to the subdivision.

The progress is impressive, but there is still a long way to go. The underground stormwater infrastructure must be completed before any works on the road can start, and the other services must be brought onto the subdivision once the levels have been built up.

Plumbers run the sewer line to the subdivision
All top soil has been removed from the site and fill is being imported, levelled and compacted. Up to 70 truck loads of fill material per day are being brought from the quarry to the site.

Sewer lines and other town infrastructure have been brought to the site in preparation for laying additional lines within the subdivision. Once the area has been brought up to design level, excavation and placement of sewer, water and stormwater infrastructure will commence.

Subdivision
Pushing up topsoil
The area for the subdivision has been cleared of all large trees and other debris. The topsoil is ready to be removed and stockpiled. Material from the near-by quarry will be brought in to profile the area and then the topsoil will be replaced.

Subdivision

Sand Quarry 01
Sand being loaded form the river-bed
Plant Troop are responsible for all horizontal construction done by the Squadron. The horizontal construction task for AACAP 07 will be a serviced ten-block subdivision.

An underground sewer main will run through the centre of the subdivision. This will ensure that, when the blocks are built on, all of the houses will have access to the town's sewer system.

Two underground water mains will run up either side of the subdivision, providing each block with access to the town's water supply, and a surfaced access road with concrete curb and guttering and stormwater drainage will circle the block.

The subdivision, including connection of services and infrastructure, is expected to take three months to complete.

A grader will be required to maintain the haul road

Material will need to be imported and shaped to provide the desired profile for correct drainage for the subdivision. The fill material will be won form a quarry 4 kilometres out of town. Up to 8 trucks will be making more than 5 return trips per day to the quarry. With the number of trucks travelling along the dirt road between the quarry and the work site; road maintenance is a major task.
