Squadron Headquarters

General
17th Construction Squadron Headquarters Troop forms the nucleus of the unit by providing administrative, logistical, medical, and pastoral services to the unit members In addition to members of Royal Australian Engineers, SHQ contains members from the following Army Corps':

Royal Australian Army Ordinance Corps,
Royal Australian Army Pay Corps,
Royal Australian Infantry Corps,
Royal Australian Signals Corps, and
Royal Australian Army Chaplains Department.
Non RAE Headquarter Troop members provide specialist functions, whilst all RAE members are Field Engineer qualified in addition to their specialist roles.

Mission
The 17th Construction Squadron Headquarters Troop provides Military administrative, logistical, medical, and pastoral services to unit members.

Tasks
Key tasks include:

approval of operational orders, project plans and works instructions (inclusive of limited design approvals),
project and construction manager responsibilities,
overall occupational health and safety and equity responsibilities,
development of Sqn training and resource programs,
development of Sqn evaluation programs (inclusive of quality system for construction),
Sqn manning and career development,
Sqn plt, veh and equip capability development and
maintenance of Sqn discipline,
readiness management, and
soldier welfare and family support responsibilities.


17th Construction Squadron's Headquarters Troop carry out routine and specialist work which may include:

Receiving new members administratively into the unit,
Arranging the supply of meals, accommodation and rations to unit members,
Complete all administrative tasks in support of squadron members including leave, postings, and disciplinary matters,
Ensure squadron members have access to communications and data processing facilities regardless of their location,
Coordinate support to unit members regarding personal matters.
