As 17 Construction Squadron's Combat Capability, Resources Troop contains both construction and Field Engineering (FE) capabilities.

The Resources Troop of 17th Construction Squadron contains tradesmen and combat engineers, making it the most flexible sub-unit available for tasking. Like 8 Troop, it contains plumbers, carpenters and electricians and can undertake all of the construction and servicing tasks that a full construction troop can.

Unlike 8 Troop, Resources Troop contains dedicated combat engineers, who dedicate their time training for and undertaking field engineering tasks.

Tasks

The role of the resources troop is to plan, manage and execute essential engineering services works and combat engineering tasks and the winning of construction materials. Key tasks include:

  • Production of project plans,
  • Compilation of BOMs,
  • Simple procurement,
  • Provision of essential engineering services (water, power and environmental management),
  • Maintain a limited vertical construction capability,
  • Provide combat engineer support to Squadron quarrying and rock crushing capability,
  • Maintain a limited timber milling capability,
  • Provide a troop level battlefield clearance and Hight Risk Search capability,
  • Provide a tp level capability for explosive demolition of fixed structures,
  • Provide an AWD capability,
  • Undertake equip (LOC) and non-equip bridging tasks, and
  • Provide combat engineering support to the Squadron capability of maintenance and delivery to site in construction configuration RAEs range of equip bridging.

Command

Resources Troop is commanded by LT Lee Gibson, the Troop Sergeant is SGT Andrew McDonald.
