17th Construction Squadron's major earthworksare carried out by Plant Troop, which provides more capability for horizontal construction than any other unit within the regular Army.
Plant troop is commanded by CAPT Karl Reynolds. It contains more equipment than the rest of the squadron combined, and has almost double the manpower of any other troop.
Plant Troop is responsible for both the plant and transport elements within the squadron, and has a diverse and busy role supporting almost all Squadron operations.
Mission
Plant Troop is to provide transportation and earth moving capabilities in support of construction works.
Tasks
The role of Plant Troop is to undertake horizontal construction tasks and provide plant and transport support to other elements of the squadron.
Ket tasks include:
Horizontal repair and construction tasks (roads,airfields, etc),
Bituminising,
Quarrying and rock crushing,
Pile driving,
Mechanicle demolition of fixed structures, and
Transport.
