House
All four houses are now undergoing their completion inspection in preparation for handover to the community at the end of the month. A list of defects will come from the inspections and once they have been rectified the houses will be officially finished.

Tradesmen from 17 Construction Squadron have worked closely with trainees form the School of Military Engineering, PNG Defence Force, 21 and 22 Construction Regiments, the Tongan Defence Services and various local contractors to complete the houses, out-buildings and fences within the timeframe.

The tradesmen have enjoyed practicing their trades and honing their skills working on this project. They have also enjoyed being part of the community of Doomadgee every day for the past 3 months. However, they are now looking forward to getting back home to spend some well deserved time with their families.

The community is very grateful for the hard work and long hours that the Construction Troop personnel have put into these houses. Thank you.

The house construction has started to move inside. Internal walls, wiring, insulation, windows and doors are being installed. In the past few weeks, the roof, external cladding and windows have been installed and all four houses are starting to look impressive.

Members from 21 Construction Regiment have also started construction of the cook houses in the back yards of two of the houses. In three weeks, they will have completed both cook houses and members from 22 Construction Regiment will be starting on the other two cook houses.

House construction has not been affected by recent weather
House construction has been progressing strongly. All four houses have wall frames, ceilings, and roof trusses in place. At this stage of construction the recent rains have had little affect on the speed and progress of construction.

When the roof sheets have been fixed down, members will be able to work comfortably and safely in any type of weather.

Although there has been many hours of work put into the house sites, there is not much to see just yet. The sites have been set out, measurements and placement has been confirmed and the stumps have been concreted in. One house has the floor frames in place, with the other three houses not too far behind.

Digging Footings
All vertical construction is being done by CONSTRUCTION TROOP. The troop consists of mostly 8 Troop personnel (with attachments from Resources Troop within 17 Construction Squadron) and they will be constructing three of the four houses.

Trade trainees from the School of Military Engineering have been tasked with the construction of one of the four houses. During the construction, the trainees will be receiving 'on the job' training from the more experienced members of the Squadron.

The houses being constructed for the community are steel framed, three bedroom houses. External cook houses will be constructed in the back yard of each house by a contingent of ARMY Reserve Engineers who will be joining us in June.

Overall, the construction of the four houses and associated cook houses is estimated to take three to four months.
