Unit Status

The unit is manned in peacetime by 161 full-time Army personnel, consisting of professional engineers, works managers, field engineers, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, plant operators, drivers, mechanics, storemen, draftsmen, surveyors, computer technicians and administrative staff.

The unit is maintained at 180 days' notice to move. Whilst the unit is not self-deployable it can be self-sufficient once deployed. The support elements of the Squadron have continuously proven their ability to independantly sppport the unit on sustained operations.

Quality Accreditation

In 1999, 17 Construction Squadron achieved AS/NZS ISO 9001:1994 accreditation of its quality system. This was renewed in May 2002. As a quality endorsed company, 17 Construction Squadron has been recognised as producing a consistent, high quality product, on time and on budget. Potential clients - whether they be other ADF units, Departmental and Government agencies - can be assured that 17 Construction Squadrons' designs, construction and project management will meet with their stated and implied needs.

The registration covers the Quality Management System for the provision of; design activities comprising design modifications and issue of working project documentation. Construction including project planning, execution of works, site management and contract administration; and project management for minor works involve client liaison through design and constructions in application to construction engineering appropriate to a Military Force.
