The Department of Defence has prepared a new Australian Noise Exposure Forecast (ANEF) for RAAF Base Darwin, Darwin International Airport and Robertson Barracks for the year 2042. The new ANEF was being prepared to help Darwin International Airport and has now been endorsed.
The new map has been produced to meet Airports Act (1996) requirements for the next Darwin International Airport Master Plan and provides residents, landowners and land planning agencies with updated information about aircraft noise in Darwin.

When these changes were modelled using specialist software it resulted in a slight overall narrowing in ANEF contours compared to the old forecast, however, there are changes to the east and west of RAAF Base Darwin under the main flight path. Major military exercises are not included in the forecast as these vary from year to year and are difficult to predict so far in advance.
