How long does it take for my Corps Transfer application to be processed?
The transfer application can be processed by SCMA within a week of its receipt, provided that all application requirements have been met. The biggest delay in the processing is the requirement for psych suitability assessment for the corps requested. It is recommended that an appointment is made with the local PSS at the time of raising the application in order to facilitate the smooth processing of the application at SCMA.
If approved, when do I commence my new trade/corps?
Transfer will be effected upon satisfactory completion of the IET course for the new corps (if required). If the applicant is fully qualified for the new corps, transfer will normally be effected as part of the normal posting cycle.
When do I start my courses?
Approved applicants will be panelled for the next available panel position on the relevant course.
What happens to my pay level?
For corps transfer at own request, a soldier will retain their original pay group until completion of the qualifying course. Once qualified and posted to a position within the new corps, the pay group will be as applicable to the new trade. The reference is DI(A) Pers 149-3.
What are the steps involved in the application process?
The application is raised at the soldier's unit and submitted to the soldier's CO for recommendation. It is then forwarded to SCMA where it is examined by the Career Manager of the soldier's present corps as well as the Career Manager of the proposed new corps. Once a position has been identified, the application is forwarded to the SO2 PM4 for approval. The application is then forwarded to the National Integrated Panelling Authority for panelling on courses as required. A signal is then raised to the soldier's unit notifying them of the result of the application.
Do I incur a ROSO and does this add to my FPS commitment?
All corps transfers that require retraining incur a ROSO. If the period of the ROSO will not exceed a soldier's current FPS obligation, it will be considered to have already been covered by the FPS period. If the ROSO will exceed the FPS period, it will be enforced, commencing on the date of posting to a position within the new corps. The ROSO can be acquitted concurrently with the FPS. In other words, the only additional obligation will be the difference between the FPS completion date and the ROSO completion date.
