ANSRA
The Army National Standby Reserve Agency (ANSRA) is an agency dedicated to administer Army Standby Reserve members, supplement ARA and AR vacancies and maintain a capability pool to facilitate expansion.
Vision
Leaders in the management of Standby Reserve personnel to support Defence operational and strategic capabilities
Mission
To effectively manage the Army Standby Reserve resourced in order to enhance Army's capabilities
Standby Reserve
Personnel, who cannot commit to a Reserve Unit due to civilian employment or family commitments often, choose to transfer to the Standby Reserve (SR) (previously called the Inactive Reserve) rather than discharging from the Army family completely; there may also be a requirement from time to time to transfer personnel to the SR due to Service needs. This means that valuable skills and experience are not immediately lost from the ADF.
Advantages of the Standby Reserve
There are many benefits for you as a Standby Reserve member, including tax free pay, and once you complete 20 days service, for example DA50(4) project work, you will have access to the Defence Home Ownership Assistance Scheme and time counted towards your Long Service Award.
Most importantly, there is no requirement for you to be AIRN compliant, or to participate in parading and or training obligations.
Information
The Standby Army Reserve is a pool of trained personnel made up of officers and soldiers from the Permanent and Reserve forces who may be utilised to undertake specific tasks or projects.
Members may transfer to the Standby Reserve for a number of reasons, such as, when a member on leaving the ARA requires time to establish themselves in civilian employment prior to transferring to the Active Reserve, or if Active Reserve members are unable to fulfil their training commitment but wish to voluntarily undertake military service when required. Members may also be transferred to the Standby Reserve when an appropriate Active Reserve position is not available.
Defence (Personnel) Regulations 2002 require ARA or AR personnel who joined the ADF on or after 01 July 2003 and who have completed a period of service to transfer to the SR for a period of five years. It isn't compulsory to transfer to the SR for those members who joined the ARA or AR prior to 01 July 2003, although it is encouraged to do so.
There is no training obligation whilst in the Standby Army Reserve although there is a continuing need to maintain trade skills and this is best achieved by periodically undertaking service on DA 50 (4) contract.
