The Staff Cadet

In early December 2008 the Royal Military College of Australia accepted delivery of their first shipment of polyresin cold cast bronze figurines based on a contemporary Staff Cadet of the Royal Military College of Australia, ready for a graduation parade at Duntroon, Canberra. The company called "Naked Army" produced the model over an eight month period to a 1:6 scale likeness of a Staff Cadet dressed in summer ceremonial dress. This form of ceremonial dress was used at the College from December 1959.

Although no particular staff cadet was chosen as the model for the cast, it is clear that "Naked Army" based it on a 6 foot staff cadet from one of the many images sent to them in order to capture the sense of ceremony and occasion in a three dimensional model. It is anticipated that the figurine will be a popular choice by friends and families of graduates of the College as a fitting congratulatory presentation, and equally it will have appeal to the historical and reunion groups. As the model weighs 2.1 kilograms it would be wise to consider purchase and collection on a visit to the College.

Unlike mass-produced collectables, these finely sculpted collector pieces are cast and finished one at a time, and bear an individual serial number. The Staff Cadet in full uniform with a scabbard sword modelled on the King George VI pattern Infantry sword is represented in fine detail. In the compilation of specially selected images and captions contained on the presentation box, the Royal Military College endeavours to capture a theme of history through to contemporary times which Staff Cadets of all eras bond to and identify with. The figurine is part of a suite of activities and projects which will be produced for the centenary of the College in 2011. "Staff Cadet 001" is placed in the College Museum at Duntroon.

Please note: the base of the figurine is unsuitable for direct engraving, however most quality engraving outlets are skilled in preparation of presentation medallions or plates.
