Empowering Army Women
18 Feb 10
Career Management Army (CMA) has introduced a new online forum to enhance the recruitment and retention of women in Army.
The Army Women's Forum was established to promote mentoring and networking opportunities for all women at all ranks.
Command Health Officer, Forces Command, COL Georgeina Whelan AM CSC says the forum targets all females within the Australian Army to enhance and further develop personal and professional skills through the use of mentoring and networking.
The online forum will empower women and men in the Army to debate, argue and promote a wide range of issues in our organisation and in doing so will bring them to the awareness of the Army Senior Leadership Group.
The forum provides appraisal and previews from previous mentoring and networking seminars held across Australia, including guidance on the 2010 round of seminars and information on supporting initiatives such as the Self-paced Mentoring Program and the Chief Executive Women's Talent Development Program.
Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Ken Gillespie is a strong proponent of the forum and encourages all women and commanders in the Army to make use of this new initiative.
Women now have the opportunity to provide their opinion and feedback that will directly contribute to shape and improve employment and workplace conditions intended to increase the female participation rate and to complement other initiatives I have applied across the broader Army. I fully support and acknowledge the importance of personal and professional growth through mentorship and networking.
The Commander CMA is also encouraging senior leaders to get involved in the forum so they can positively promote the benefits about women in the Army.
The Army Women's online forum is on Defweb. It can be located at http://intranet.defence.gov.au/armywe b/sites/ArmyWomensForum/.
CMA is also in the midst of planning the 2010 Army Women's Forum seminars, to be held in Darwin, Melbourne and regional Victoria, Townsville, Brisbane, Holsworthy and Canberra. If you would like more information on the sessions, please follow the updates on the Army Women's Forum website or call the CM-A point of contact, Leadership Development Manager (07) 3233 4215.
