- The German administration
in German New Guinea surrendered to the Australian Naval and Military
Expeditionary Force. For the next seven years the area remained under
Australian military administration.

only 50 kilometres from Port Moresby.

occupied Kapyong Barracks, Puckapunyal. In 1995 the regiment relocated
to Robertson Barracks, Palmerston, NT.

- 1 RAR participated
with US, ARVN and NZ troops in the biggest Allied offensive of the war
to that time. The operation was to sweep through the enemy Long Nguyen
(Dragon's Lair), 8 kilometres north of Ben Cat.

withdrew from Borneo at the end of the Indonesian confrontation with
Malaysia.
