1914

  • The German administration in German New Guinea surrendered to the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force. For the next seven years the area remained under Australian military administration.

  • The British general Birdwood was confirmed as GOC AIF. He was to hold that appointment for the rest of WW 1.

  • 25 Bde relieved the exhausted 21 Bde at Ioribaiwa, the Japanese were now only 50 kilometres from Port Moresby.

  • 26 Bde finally crossed the Busu River in the advance to Lae.

1954

  • The Government announced that the Army commitment to Korea would be reduced to one infantry battalion.

  • 1 ARMD REGT formally occupied Kapyong Barracks, Puckapunyal. In 1995 the regiment relocated to Robertson Barracks, Palmerston, NT.

  • 1 RAR participated with US, ARVN and NZ troops in the biggest Allied offensive of the war to that time. The operation was to sweep through the enemy Long Nguyen (Dragon's Lair), 8 kilometres north of Ben Cat.

  • Australian troops withdrew from Borneo at the end of the Indonesian confrontation with Malaysia.
