When I first joined the ADF I never even though about postgraduate studies. The Army offered me an exciting career which incorporated the values which are important to me - leadership, respect and integrity.
It also provided a good education, and employment opportunities that no other organisation or career path could offer. Ten years later, the fact that Defence is paying for me to study for my masters is definitely a benefit.
As a qualified engineer, and an active member of the Institute of Engineers Australia, I believe that postgraduate study is a good way to keep my degree up to date. As an added bonus, the postgraduate program is fully funded by the ADF, and I get additional funding for textbooks and course materials, as well as leave for intensive full time courses and exams.
I'm gaining a far greater depth of knowledge in my profession as an engineer, which will make me more competitive for promotion, and more proficient as an officer and an engineer in the ADF.
