The Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) is a unique military institution which combines military education and training with academic study for an undergraduate degree through the University of New South Wales.
Approximately 1000 Army and Air Force officer cadets and Navy midshipmen are currently enrolled in the three year training program at ADFA. They come from around Australia and, through military exchange programs, from 16 other Defence Forces around the world.
Midshipmen and Officer Cadets at ADFA begin a career in the ADF, receiving a full time salary while they undertake a program of military and leadership training. At the same time they study an undergraduate program through UNSW, fully paid for by the Australian Defence Force and are guaranteed a full time job upon graduation.
The military training and university education they undertake will ensure they possess the knowledge, skills, professional abilities and qualities of character appropriate to officers in the ADF.
There are also 1500 postgraduate students studying at ADFA. The Academy is also comprised of the Capability Technology & Management College, Defence Force Chaplain’s College and Australia’s Federation Guard.
